Milo's Dreamy Night

Milo was a tiny bluebird who loved to sing all day long, but when night came, he just didn't want to sleep. What magical discoveries await him in his dreams?

Milo was a tiny bluebird with feathers as blue as the clear daytime sky. He loved to sing! From the very first peep of the sun, until it dipped down in a blaze of orange and pink, you could hear Milo’s happy chirps. He'd flit from the tallest oak to the lowest daisy, sharing his cheerful songs with everyone. "Good morning, Mrs. Squirrel!" he'd trill. "Hello, Mr. Beetle!" But when the stars began to twinkle, and the moon peeked out like a shy friend, Milo would get a little flutter in his tummy. "Oh dear," he'd sigh, ruffling his sky-blue feathers. "It's bedtime again! I don't want to close my eyes. I might miss something wonderful!"

One night, as his mummy bird gently nudged him into their cozy nest, Milo whispered, "But Mummy, what if I miss the fireflies dancing? Or the quiet whisper of the night wind?" His mummy bird tucked him in warmly. "Sweet Milo," she chirped softly, "when you close your eyes, a whole new kind of wonderful begins. It’s called dreaming! In your dreams, you can fly higher than any cloud, visit lands made of marshmallows, or even share your songs with the moon itself." Milo thought about that. He had never really *tried* dreaming before. He usually just worried about missing things. He decided he would try to be brave and see what dreams were all about.

Milo snuggled down, closed his big, curious eyes, and took a deep, sleepy breath. Slowly, a warm, swirly feeling started in his tummy. He wasn't missing the fireflies; he *was* a firefly, twinkling brighter than all the others! He flew through a sky made of soft, fluffy cotton candy clouds, singing his happiest songs to a smiling, sleepy moon. He even met a friendly caterpillar who wanted to learn all his chirpy tunes. When the sun gently woke him the next morning, Milo blinked. He felt rested and happy. "Mummy!" he chirped, "Dreams are even better than staying awake! I helped a caterpillar learn to sing!" From that night on, Milo couldn't wait for bedtime, excited for the new adventures his dreams would bring.
