The Cloud Who Chased Dreams

Every night, a special cloud turns happy dreams into twinkling stars. But what happens when a little one has no happy dreams to share?

High, high above the sleeping world, lived a special cloud named Nimbus. Nimbus wasn't just any cloud; Nimbus had a very important job. Every night, as the moon peeked out and little eyes closed, Nimbus would float softly over houses, gathering all the happy dreams. Swish! A dream about building a sandcastle would make Nimbus glow sandy-yellow. Whoosh! A dream about flying a kite would paint a stripe of sky-blue. Once Nimbus was full of these lovely dreams, they would sparkle and drift away, turning into brand new, shiny stars in the night sky. Each star was a happy memory, a giggling thought, or a brave adventure from a child's slumber.

One evening, Nimbus floated over a quiet little house. Inside, a child named Lily was fast asleep, but Nimbus felt something different. There were no happy dream sparkles floating up from Lily's window. Nimbus felt a little wobble of worry. "Oh dear," whispered Nimbus, a gentle puff of cloud escaping. "No happy dreams tonight? How will we make a new star for Lily?" Suddenly, a tiny voice squeaked, "Don't worry, Nimbus! We'll find one!" It was Pip, a little grey bunny who loved to ride on Nimbus's soft back, always ready for an adventure. Pip had a little green leaf tucked behind one ear, making him look quite jaunty. "But where, Pip? The sun will be up soon!"

"We'll look everywhere!" declared Pip, wiggling his nose. "Maybe a squirrel is dreaming of acorns, or a little fish is dreaming of glittery coral!" So, Nimbus, with Pip holding on tight, began to drift faster. They swooped low over a whispering forest. "Any happy dreams, forest friends?" Nimbus puffed. They saw a tiny mouse dreaming of a cheese feast, but it wasn't quite the big, sparkling dream needed for a star. They drifted over a gurgling river. "Perhaps a frog is dreaming of jumping higher than ever before?" Pip suggested. They saw a frog dreaming of catching a juicy fly, which made the frog happy, but again, not quite star-worthy. Nimbus started to feel a bit droopy. The sky was beginning to lighten ever so slightly, a faint blush of pink on the horizon. "Oh, Pip," Nimbus sighed, "I don't think we'll find a dream big enough in time." Pip patted Nimbus's soft side. "Don't give up, Nimbus! We're doing our best. Remember when we found that dream about a puppy playing in puddles? That made a super shiny star!" Pip's kind words made Nimbus feel a tiny bit lighter. They continued their journey, a little more determined, towards the sleepy edges of the forest where the first dew drops were forming.

Just as the very first sunbeam touched the tallest tree, Pip spotted something. "Look, Nimbus!" he squeaked, pointing a tiny paw. Below them, a little baby bird was chirping softly in its nest, dreaming. And what a dream it was! The baby bird was dreaming of learning to fly for the very first time, soaring high above the trees with its mama and papa. It was a dream full of courage, new adventures, and warm family love. "Oh, Pip!" Nimbus gasped, glowing with delight. This was it! This was the perfect dream! Gently, Nimbus collected the shimmering dream of the baby bird's first flight. It swirled inside Nimbus, turning into the brightest, most beautiful star ever seen. With a final, happy puff, Nimbus released the star into the fading night sky, just as the sun climbed higher, painting the world in gold.

Lily woke up feeling happy and refreshed, even though she couldn't remember her dreams. That night, when she looked out her window, a brand new, extra-sparkly star winked at her. Nimbus and Pip floated peacefully, ready for another night of dream-catching. Sometimes, even when we don't feel like we have happy dreams, kindness and a little adventure can help us find one for someone else, making the whole world a little brighter. And that's a wonderful dream to have.
